Solar, Roofing & Heat Pumps in Central Brookhaven
From Lake Grove and Centereach to Coram, Ridge, Medford and Manorville, our founder Steve Maroney has helped more than 300 Town of Brookhaven homeowners go solar since 2013. We're a local company based in Saint James.

Local roots. Long Island neighbors.
We didn't just open a business on Long Island. We grew up in Saint James, and our roots in this community run deep. That's why our neighbors trust us with the solar, roofing and heat pump decisions that matter most for their homes and businesses.
A local company that's still here.
Several of the big national solar companies have shut down in the last few years, leaving Long Island customers with no one to call. We've stayed lean, local and focused on doing right by our customers.
We design your system, handle the permits, and install with our long-time partner Greenleaf Solar. One team covers solar, roofing and heat pumps, so there's no finger-pointing between contractors.
More about Power House →About our numbers: Project counts include solar projects our founder, Steve Maroney, designed, advised on, sold and supported as a solar consultant with another Long Island solar company from 2013 to 2024, plus Power House Home Energy projects since he founded the company in 2024. Many of those homeowners are still his customers and referral partners today.
Most of Central Brookhaven goes through the Town.
Nearly every address here is permitted by the Town of Brookhaven. A few communities cross Town lines, so we confirm the right office for your address before we file. Homes in a designated historic district also go through that district's review, which we coordinate with the permit office for approval.
Town of Brookhaven
Most addresses go through the Town of Brookhaven Building Division. Town permits typically take 4–6 weeks.
Village of Lake Grove
Lake Grove is an incorporated village with its own permit process. We file with the village, and the timeline is about the same as the Town's.
Communities that cross Town lines
Ronkonkoma, Lake Ronkonkoma, Holbrook and Holtsville extend into the Towns of Islip and Smithtown, and part of Manorville is in the Town of Riverhead. We check which office covers your address.
Every project, in any town, also needs PSEG Long Island interconnection approval before installation, then a final inspection and Permission to Operate (PTO) from PSEG Long Island before the system turns on. We handle all of the paperwork and coordination with PSEG Long Island. Install day itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day.
Every central Brookhaven community we serve.
Post-war neighborhoods, newer developments, 55+ communities and wooded Pine Barrens lots, each with its own mix of homes and rooflines.
Centereach
1950s and '60s ranches and capes with simple, open rooflines that work well for solar. Many homeowners replace an aging roof and add panels in one project.
Selden
Capes, ranches and high ranches on modest lots, often with clear roofs and good sun exposure.
Coram
A mix of 1970s and '80s homes, townhouses and condominium communities. For homes in an HOA, we prepare the plans and specs the board asks for.
Middle Island
Newer single-family homes alongside several condominium and townhouse communities. We help homeowners through HOA approval where it applies.
Ridge
Home to large 55+ communities as well as single-family homes on wooded lots. Many retirees here are looking for a predictable electric bill.
Farmingville
Capes, ranches and high ranches with straightforward rooflines, many now due for a new roof.
Holbrook
High ranches and colonials, many with growing electric loads from central air, EVs and heat pumps. Holbrook is split with the Town of Islip, so we check your permit office first.
Holtsville
Mid-century and newer homes near the Islip line. We confirm whether your address is permitted by Brookhaven or Islip.
Medford
Ranches and capes, some on wooded lots, plus newer developments. Many homes here pair well with solar plus a heat pump.
Yaphank
Wooded, more rural lots alongside newer developments. Larger properties can open the door to bigger systems or ground mounts.
Lake Grove
An incorporated village with its own permit process. Mostly mid-century ranches and capes with good roofs for solar.
Ronkonkoma
Homes around the lake and near the train station. Part of Ronkonkoma is in the Towns of Islip and Smithtown, so we check your permit office first.
Lake Ronkonkoma
Older homes near the lake mixed with newer construction. Like Ronkonkoma, it crosses Town lines.
Manorville
Larger lots in the Pine Barrens, where ground mounts and bigger systems are often possible. Part of Manorville is in the Town of Riverhead.
Living in an HOA or 55+ community?
Coram, Middle Island and Ridge include many condominium, townhouse and 55+ communities. Solar is often still possible. We prepare the drawings, equipment specs and layout your board needs to review.
Roof first, then solar, from one crew.
Many central Brookhaven homes were built in the 1950s through the 1970s and are on their second or third roof. We check your roof's condition first, and if it needs replacing, we do the roof and solar together so you never pay to remove and reinstall panels later.
Roofing and solar →Solar and heat pumps
Many central Brookhaven homes still heat with oil, and oil prices have climbed sharply. A heat pump replaces most of that oil burn with electricity, and solar makes that electricity yours. PSEG Long Island offers heat pump rebates, and you can keep your oil or gas system as backup and still qualify. We size the solar and the heat pump together, so your panels are built for the load you'll actually have.
Solar + Heat Pump →Paying for it
Cash, loan, lease, or our Participate Energy program, an incentive that lowers your investment by 25–35%. New York's solar tax credit (25%, up to $5,000) can apply too. We'll walk you through every option side by side.

48-panel, 22.1 kW solar system
A 48-panel, 22.1 kW system spread across several roof sections to cover a big household load. Jared took his time deciding, and Steve answered his questions for more than a year and a half before install day.
★★★★★“I wanted to take a moment to write a review about Steve Maroney at Power House Home Energy. I really cant say enough great things about him. I was very slow to actually take the jump into solar for my house and spoke to him via phone, text, and email for well over a year and a half! Steve was always patient with me, answering questions in detail at a drop of a dime and I never had to wait for an answer, day or night. Steve truly offered his professionalism, expertise and most of all his friendliness. He has been up front and extremely responsive leaving no surprises throughout the planning phase, loan process and install, a testament to his character. Steve made sure to visit my home as the crew was finishing my install, where we further spoke about the the technology and let me know for the future that he was only a phone call away. If anyone is thinking of taking the jump into a solar panel installation and you have any questions, I would definitely contact Steve Maroney personally!”

“I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with Power House Home Energy, regarding my Solar installation. Steve is awesome! Took the time to sit down with a very detailed layout of what the system would look like, produce, and save us. He made sure to go over all the fine points and address any and all questions that we had. He made himself available to me at all times if I had follow ups and was always very quick to respond. Everything went as planned and promised. The crew was in and out within hours and cleaned up after themselves. No issues or complaints. If you're looking to get solar don't think twice about using Steve and Power House Home Energy, you'll be treated like a friend and family member. You won't regret it. Thank you again my friend!”

How long does it take to get a solar permit in Brookhaven?
Town of Brookhaven permits typically take 4–6 weeks. Homes inside an incorporated village go through that village instead. The installation itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day. Every project also needs PSEG Long Island interconnection approval before installation, and a final inspection and Permission to Operate (PTO) before the system turns on. We handle all of the paperwork and coordination with PSEG Long Island.
Can I get solar if I live in an HOA or 55+ community in Coram, Middle Island or Ridge?
Often, yes. Most HOAs require approval before exterior changes, so we prepare the drawings, equipment specs and layout the board needs. Whether solar is allowed, and on which roof, depends on your community's rules and whether you own the roof.
Is Ronkonkoma in the Town of Brookhaven?
Partly. Ronkonkoma and Lake Ronkonkoma are split among the Towns of Brookhaven, Islip and Smithtown, so which office issues your permit depends on your exact address. We confirm it before we file.
Should I replace my roof before getting solar?
If your roof has less than about 10 years of life left, it usually makes sense to replace it first. We check your roof's condition during the energy review, and if it needs replacing, we do the roof and solar together, each typically in one day.
