Solar, Roofing & Heat Pumps on Brookhaven's North Shore
From Stony Brook and the Setaukets to Port Jefferson, Mount Sinai, Sound Beach, Rocky Point and Shoreham, our founder Steve Maroney has helped more than 300 Town of Brookhaven homeowners go solar since 2013. We're based next door in Saint James.

Local roots. Long Island neighbors.
We didn't just open a business on Long Island. We grew up in Saint James, and our roots in this community run deep. That's why our neighbors trust us with the solar, roofing and heat pump decisions that matter most for their homes and businesses.
A local company that's still here.
Several of the big national solar companies have shut down in the last few years, leaving Long Island customers with no one to call. We've stayed lean, local and focused on doing right by our customers.
We design your system, handle the permits, and install with our long-time partner Greenleaf Solar. One team covers solar, roofing and heat pumps, so there's no finger-pointing between contractors.
More about Power House →About our numbers: Project counts include solar projects our founder, Steve Maroney, designed, advised on, sold and supported as a solar consultant with another Long Island solar company from 2013 to 2024, plus Power House Home Energy projects since he founded the company in 2024. Many of those homeowners are still his customers and referral partners today.
Town or village? It depends on your address.
The North Shore has more incorporated villages than any other part of Brookhaven. We confirm the right permit office for your address and handle the paperwork either way. Homes in a designated historic district also go through that district's review, which we coordinate with the permit office for approval.
Town of Brookhaven
Most addresses go through the Town of Brookhaven Building Division. Town permits typically take 4–6 weeks.
The Villages
Port Jefferson, Belle Terre, Old Field, Poquott and Shoreham are incorporated villages that issue their own permits. We file with the village, and timelines are about the same as the Town's.
Port Jefferson vs. Port Jefferson Station
They sound alike but aren't: Port Jefferson is an incorporated village, while Port Jefferson Station is a hamlet permitted through the Town. We check before we file.
Every project, in any town, also needs PSEG Long Island interconnection approval before installation, then a final inspection and Permission to Operate (PTO) from PSEG Long Island before the system turns on. We handle all of the paperwork and coordination with PSEG Long Island. Install day itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day.
Every North Shore community in Brookhaven.
Harbor villages, historic hamlets and wooded hillside neighborhoods, each with its own mix of homes, rooflines and trees.
Stony Brook
Colonials and split-levels on wooded lots, plus older homes near the harbor, where historic district review can apply. Many homeowners pair solar with a roof replacement on 1960s and '70s houses.
Setauket
One of the oldest communities on Long Island, with historic homes alongside mid-century colonials. Homes in a historic district go through that district's review, which we coordinate for you.
East Setauket
Larger colonials and wooded neighborhoods off Route 25A. Tree cover is common, so we measure shade before we design.
South Setauket
Ranches, high ranches and colonials with straightforward rooflines that are often a good fit for solar.
Port Jefferson
An incorporated village with its own permit process. Older village homes near the harbor sit alongside hillside houses with great sun exposure.
Port Jefferson Station
Capes, ranches and high ranches permitted through the Town. Many homes here are due for a roof, which makes it a good time to add solar.
Belle Terre
An incorporated village of larger homes on big, wooded lots. Village permits apply, and larger properties can open the door to bigger systems or ground mounts.
Old Field
Waterfront estates in an incorporated village. We design carefully for larger homes and handle the village permit.
Poquott
A small waterfront village with its own permit process. Many homes have open water views and strong sun exposure.
Miller Place
Colonials and high ranches on wooded, hilly lots between Mount Sinai and Rocky Point. We model shade on each roof before we design.
Mount Sinai
Newer colonials built from the 1980s onward, often with big electric loads from central air and pools. Larger roofs support properly sized systems.
Sound Beach
Former summer bungalows, many expanded into year-round homes, on hilly, wooded streets. We model shade on each roof before recommending anything.
Rocky Point
A mix of converted cottages, capes and newer homes. Many still heat with oil, which makes solar plus a heat pump worth a look.
Shoreham
An incorporated village of larger homes on wooded lots. Village permits apply, and our shade analysis shows which trees matter.
Wooded lots are the North Shore norm.
Tall trees and hilly streets are part of what makes the North Shore beautiful, and they're the most common question we get here. Tree work is sometimes needed, but usually far less than homeowners expect.
Tree-by-tree shade analysis
Our satellite design tools model shade on your exact roof and calculate how much each individual tree reduces your output. You see real production numbers before you commit, and you only address the trees that make a real difference.
Solar and heat pumps
Many older North Shore homes still heat with oil, and oil prices have climbed sharply. A heat pump replaces most of that oil burn with electricity, and solar makes that electricity yours. PSEG Long Island offers heat pump rebates, and you can keep your oil or gas system as backup and still qualify. We size the solar and the heat pump together, so your panels are built for the load you'll actually have.
Solar + Heat Pump →Paying for it
Cash, loan, lease, or our Participate Energy program, an incentive that lowers your investment by 25–35%. New York's solar tax credit (25%, up to $5,000) can apply too. We'll walk you through every option side by side.

Solar plus an oil-to-heat-pump upgrade
A 39-panel system with coordinated tree work and roof modifications, paired with replacing oil heat with a high-efficiency heat pump, so the panels cover heating as well as electricity.

How long does it take to get a solar permit in Brookhaven?
Town of Brookhaven permits typically take 4–6 weeks. Homes inside an incorporated village go through that village instead. The installation itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day. Every project also needs PSEG Long Island interconnection approval before installation, and a final inspection and Permission to Operate (PTO) before the system turns on. We handle all of the paperwork and coordination with PSEG Long Island.
Do I need village approval for solar in Port Jefferson, Belle Terre, Old Field, Poquott or Shoreham?
Yes. Those five are incorporated villages that issue their own building permits, so your application goes to the village rather than the Town of Brookhaven. Timelines are about the same as the Town's, and we prepare and file everything.
Is Port Jefferson Station part of the Village of Port Jefferson?
No. Port Jefferson Station is an unincorporated hamlet, so solar permits there go through the Town of Brookhaven. The Village of Port Jefferson has its own permit process. We confirm which one applies to your address before we file.
My North Shore property has a lot of trees. Can I still go solar?
Often, yes. We use satellite design tools to model shade on your exact roof and calculate, tree by tree, how much each one reduces your system's output. That lets you decide whether any tree work is worth it. On larger lots, a ground mount may be an option.
