What Warranty Comes With Solar on Long Island?

A warranty is only as good as what it covers and who stands behind it. Here's exactly what comes with each kind of project.

By Steve Maroney, founder of Power House Home Energy · Updated October 2026

The short answer

A new Power House solar system comes with manufacturer warranties of 25–30 years on the equipment, plus a 30-year workmanship warranty from our installation partner, Greenleaf Solar, on the installation itself. A new roof carries a 30-year roof warranty plus a 30-year Greenleaf workmanship warranty. If an existing system is removed and reinstalled for a roof replacement, the new roof attachments carry a 30-year Greenleaf roofing warranty, and the reinstalled equipment gets a 1-year Greenleaf service warranty plus whatever remains of its original manufacturer warranties.

The three layers of a solar warranty

Manufacturer warranties

Cover the equipment itself, like panels and inverters, against defects and loss of performance. On new systems these run 25 to 30 years, depending on the component.

Workmanship warranty

Covers the installation: the wiring, mounting and work on your roof. Ours runs 30 years and is backed by Greenleaf Solar, our installation partner.

Roof warranty

Covers the roof itself when we replace it, for 30 years, alongside the 30-year workmanship warranty on the roofing work.

Why a long workmanship warranty matters

When a solar system has a problem, it's often in the installation rather than the panels themselves. That's why the length of the workmanship warranty, and the strength of the company behind it, matter as much as the panel brand. Greenleaf Solar installs systems across Long Island and is REC ProTrust certified, so your coverage is backed by both the manufacturers and an established installer.

Doing the roof and solar together

When we replace your roof and install solar in the same project, one team is responsible for both, and both are covered by a 30-year Greenleaf workmanship warranty. There's no finger-pointing between a roofer and a solar company if anything ever comes up. See Should I replace my roof before solar?

Removing and reinstalling an existing system

If you already have solar and need a new roof, we remove the system, replace the roof and reinstall it, including systems we didn't install. The new roof attachments for the reinstalled system carry a 30-year Greenleaf roofing warranty. The reinstalled equipment gets a 1-year Greenleaf service warranty, plus whatever time remains on its original manufacturer warranties.

Service after the first year

For service outside warranty coverage, such as on a reinstalled system after its first year, there's a $150 service call fee, which is deducted from labor at $100 an hour. We also service and troubleshoot systems other companies installed, including when the original installer is no longer in business. See Solar System Check.

Manufacturer warranty terms vary by product and are listed in your proposal and equipment documents. We'll walk you through every warranty before you sign.
