Islip is one of the most solar-friendly towns on Long Island.
The Town of Islip moves solar permits quickly, which means you start saving sooner. A couple of incorporated villages and shared hamlets have their own rules, and we confirm the right office for your address. Homes in a designated historic district also go through that district's review, which we coordinate with the permit office for approval.

Islip is known for being solar-friendly, and Town permits typically take just 3–5 weeks.

Brightwaters and Islandia are incorporated villages that issue their own permits. We file with the village and give you its timeline up front.
Communities that cross Town lines
Holbrook, Ronkonkoma and Hauppauge are split with the Towns of Brookhaven and Smithtown. We confirm which office covers your address before we file.
Every project, in any town, also needs PSEG Long Island interconnection approval before installation, then a final inspection and Permission to Operate (PTO) from PSEG Long Island before the system turns on. We handle all of the paperwork and coordination with PSEG Long Island. Install day itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day.

Colonials, capes and older homes near Main Street and the bay. Many roofs here are due for replacement, which makes it a good time to add solar.
Brightwaters
An incorporated village of well-kept older homes around its lakes and canals. Village permits apply, and we design layouts that fit the neighborhood.
Islip
Mid-century homes and older houses near the bay. Straightforward rooflines make many homes here a strong fit for solar.
East Islip
Tree-lined streets of capes, colonials and ranches. We model shade on each roof before recommending anything.
West Islip
Split-levels, capes and ranches from the 1950s and '60s, plus larger waterfront homes to the south. Many homeowners pair a new roof with solar.
Islip Terrace
Modest capes and ranches with simple roofs that are often an easy fit for solar.
Brentwood
One of Long Island's largest hamlets, with post-war capes and ranches on compact lots. Solar can take a real bite out of high electric bills here.
Central Islip
Capes, ranches and newer developments. Clear roofs and good sun exposure are common.

Larger properties near the Connetquot River, often with room for bigger systems.

Smaller older homes near the bay alongside mid-century neighborhoods.
Bayport
Older homes on larger, tree-lined lots. Roof condition and shade come first in our design.
Bohemia
Ranches, high ranches and newer homes near MacArthur Airport, often with good roof space.
Holbrook
High ranches and colonials, many with growing electric loads from central air, EVs and heat pumps. Holbrook is split with the Town of Brookhaven.
Islandia
A small incorporated village with its own permit process.
Ronkonkoma
Homes near the lake and train station. Ronkonkoma is split among Islip, Brookhaven and Smithtown, so we check your permit office first.
Hauppauge
Mid-century neighborhoods where many homes still heat with oil. Part of Hauppauge is in the Town of Smithtown.

Solar and heat pumps
Many Islip homes still heat with oil, and oil prices have climbed sharply. A heat pump replaces most of that oil burn with electricity, and solar makes that electricity yours. PSEG Long Island offers heat pump rebates, and you can keep your oil or gas system as backup and still qualify. We size the solar and the heat pump together, so your panels are built for the load you'll actually have.

How long does it take to get a solar permit in Islip?

Both. Holbrook is split between the Towns of Islip and Brookhaven, and Ronkonkoma is split among Islip, Brookhaven and Smithtown. Which office issues your permit depends on your exact address, and we confirm it before we file.
Should I replace my roof before getting solar?
If your roof has less than about 10 years of life left, it usually makes sense to replace it first. We check your roof during the energy review, and if it needs replacing, we do the roof and solar together, each typically in one day.
