Your Neighbors, Not a Call Center

A local company that's still here.

Several of the big national solar companies have shut down in the last few years, leaving New York homeowners with no one to call. We've stayed lean, focused and accountable to our customers.

We design your system, handle the permits, and install with our long-time partner Greenleaf Solar. One team covers solar, roofing, battery storage and heat pumps, so there's no finger-pointing between contractors.

More about Power House →

About our numbers: Project counts include solar projects our founder, Steve Maroney, designed, advised on, sold and supported as a solar consultant with another Long Island solar company from 2013 to 2024, plus Power House Home Energy projects since he founded the company in 2024. Many of those homeowners are still his customers and referral partners today.

Permits & Timeline

Every town, village and city runs its own permits.

In Putnam County, your building permit comes from your city, town or village, and timing varies by municipality, typically 3–8 weeks. We confirm the right office for your address and handle the paperwork. Homes in a designated historic district also go through that district's review, which we coordinate with the permit office for approval.

Local building permit

Your city, town or village issues the permit. Timing varies by municipality, typically 3–8 weeks, and we give you the timeline for your address up front.

Your utility

Depending on your address, your utility is NYSEG or Central Hudson. We handle interconnection with whichever serves your home.

Incentives

New York's 25% solar tax credit (up to $5,000), a sales tax exemption on residential solar, and in many municipalities a 15-year property tax exemption on solar's added value.

From permit to power-on, we handle it all.

Every project needs a local building permit, NYSEG or Central Hudson interconnection approval before installation, and a final inspection and Permission to Operate (PTO) before the system turns on. We handle all of the paperwork and coordination. Install day itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day.

Tree-by-tree shade analysis

Our satellite design tools model shade on your exact roof and calculate how much each individual tree reduces your output. You see real production numbers before you commit.

Roof first, then solar, from one crew.

We check your roof first, and if it needs replacing, we do the roof and solar together, each typically in one day, so you never pay to remove and reinstall panels later.

Solar and heat pumps

Many homes here still heat with oil, propane or gas, and costs keep climbing. A heat pump replaces most of that fuel burn with electricity, and solar makes that electricity yours. NYSEG or Central Hudson offers heat pump rebates through the NYS Clean Heat program, and we help you apply. We size the solar and the heat pump together, so your panels are built for the load you'll actually have.

Paying for it

Cash, loan, lease, or our Participate Energy program, an incentive that lowers your investment by 25–35%. New York's solar tax credit (25%, up to $5,000) can apply, and residential solar is exempt from New York sales tax. In many New York municipalities, the added value from solar is also exempt from property tax for 15 years. We'll walk you through every option side by side.

Putnam County Solar Questions

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to go solar in Putnam County?

Permit timing depends on your city, town or village, typically 3–8 weeks. Every project also needs utility interconnection approval and a final sign-off before the system turns on. We handle all of it. Install day itself is fast: most solar installs take one day, larger systems one to two days, and systems with battery backup two to three days. A roof replacement or a heat pump install each typically takes one day.

Who is my utility in Putnam County?

Depending on your address, it's NYSEG or Central Hudson. We handle interconnection with whichever utility serves your home.

My property has a lot of trees. Can I still go solar?

Often, yes. We use satellite design tools to model shade on your exact roof and calculate, tree by tree, how much each one reduces your output. On larger lots, a ground mount may be an option.

Should I replace my roof before getting solar?

If your roof has less than about 10 years of life left, it usually makes sense to replace it first. We do the roof and solar together, each typically in one day, so you never pay to remove and reinstall panels later.

What incentives are available?

New York's solar tax credit covers 25% of the cost, up to $5,000, and residential solar is exempt from state sales tax. In many municipalities the added value from solar is exempt from property tax for 15 years. Our Participate Energy program is an incentive that lowers your investment by 25–35%.
